Mirjam Myklebust's Artistic Vision
Christian Branducci // Art Consultant
Mirjam Myklebust, a Norwegian artist, possesses a unique and free-spirited approach to her craft. Her art is characterized by spontaneous lines and musical tones, which at times embrace raw, untamed elements, while at other times, exude melodious harmony.
In each stroke of her brush, there's a prelude and a musical finale, reflecting her profound love for life and freedom. Her art enchants the soul and resonates with harmony. Within every stroke lies the echo of her ancestors, a dance of their collective breath.
Descended from the Vikings, Mirjam left her native Norway at the age of 20 and settled in the historic city of Avignon, France. With a naturally gifted dramatic soprano voice, she embarked on a journey of artistic expression, enrolling in master classes led by the renowned Montserrat Caballé.
Mirjam's artistic journey unfolds across various mediums, including singing, poetry, and writing. However, her primary mode of expression is through visual art, specifically, pictorial writing. As a self-taught artist, she drew inspiration from her spiritual mentors, such as Max Ernst, the surrealist poetry of Joan Miró, Kandinsky's abstraction, and Jean Arp's non-conformist delirium.
Coming from a large and loving Norwegian family of ten children, she carries with her the warmth of their sibling bonds. Her art captures the essence of her homeland's sometimes harsh and icy climate, with its rapidly changing skies and the play of almost perpetual light, depending on the time of year.
This stark contrast is evident in her works, where bright and dark tones mingle and intersect on predominantly white canvases. The interplay of chiaroscuro creates a profound sense of complicity, where light reveals a truth bathed in grace—an ascension to clarity, a transparent and childlike spirit symbolizing an innocent luminosity.
Mirjam's creativity leads her to explore large immersive formats, where she redefines her approach to composition by delving deeply into space. Her drawings gracefully take over the canvas in a dance of sweeping, rhythmic curves and counter-curves adorned with pure colors.
Mirjam's art liberates itself from rigid symmetries, favoring an approach of boundless freedom, driven by a joyful vitality. Her artistic expression takes on a spiritual dimension, as her dreams serve as a wellspring of inspiration that she directly transposes onto her canvas.
Perhaps, she remembers the famous quote, "I do not represent; I present."
Her art unfolds with a dreamlike, moving spirituality. Shadows emerge like illusions amidst intersecting nerve lines, forming guides and trenches that pierce through the canvas's white and raw spaces. The nuanced choice of tones transports you into a realm of shadows and light, a rhythmic play that challenges the mind to find its liberation.
Mirjam humbly acknowledges her smallness and ignorance in the vast world. Can beauty save the world? How does one convey the sensation of perceiving perfection and divinity reigning supreme?
Mirjam:
A Force of Authenticity
and Passion
Christian Branducci // Art Consultant
Mirjam is a vibrant enigma, an advocate of authenticity. Her wellspring of inspiration flows from the depths of her being, as if guided by a divine force. In a world where fog often obscures truth, she strides forward, unwavering and resolute, seeking the divine path—a path of hope, faith, the joy of sharing, knowledge, beauty, and wonder.
With fiery determination, she raises her voice, a clarion call against the mediocrity of conformist thinking and the dictatorship of the mind. Like a Valkyrie on a mission to vanquish rats, she scatters them, decapitates them, severing all ties to contamination.
Born in the rugged terrain of her homeland, she learned to battle life's challenges. On vast canvases, she paints bold, sweeping curves—a journey inward, perhaps a form of self-detention. "They say I'm too extraordinary to be real," she remarks. "But they are mistaken. I haven't stolen anything from anyone. What I inherited in my cradle is singularity. Must one conform to be accepted? I propose a different dialogue: become your true self."
Herein lies the key to freedom and authenticity, fused with femininity. She refuses to let darkness and ignorance mold her.
"I hear it," she declares, "we do not dance to the same rhythm. I'd rather step aside and find solitude. From my solitary castle, I've composed a prelude that bridges opposites. They may have distinct rhythms, but they harmoniously dance together."
This artist embarks on a quest for excellence, striving toward a higher purpose and endeavoring to share this message with her contemporaries.
From Mirjam's poetic collection 'Foreign, Female, and HP':
"When you profess your love for me, my heart beats with anticipation,
Could my aspirations and dreams finally find realization?
As you clasp my hand, I sense your uniqueness, too,
Resisting affection for someone like you feels untrue.
Power, individuality, equality, dreams, and reality meld within me,
Nothing seems clear, yet with love, all is in harmony.
Everything becomes attainable, nothing remains unfeasible,
In love, our reality crystallizes, revealing the sublime and eternal.
Divine love exists, transcending all else, I know it well."
